It seems that the Euro Cup 2012 fever is affecting everyone.
For once in this year, everyone has something to talk about besides the financial crisis, and the economic slowdown in China.
At least the Euro Cup 2012 provides a more interesting conversation topic.
Just the other day, a few colleagues from different branches met up. The conversation topic turned to Euro Cup 2012.
They were arguing about the team which would win the Euro Cup 2012. One colleague was firmly rooted for Italy, even though the others pointed out to her that Italy did not win the last round.
It would not be such an unusual conversation if the colleagues were guys with beers on hand.
However, those colleagues of mine were female. They were working as cashiers in different sales outlets. They were in their mid 40s, with children in colleges.
You would not expect them to take such an interest in Euro Cup 2012, to the point of arguing until their necks turned red.
This goes to show the effect of Euro Cup 2012 fever spreading to the general public.
People are frankly sick of the high inflation, and all the bad news coming from different parts of the world.
The current European Cup 2012 provides a distraction, even to the housewives who are normally more interested in household topics.
Hope the London Summer Olympics 2012 will cause a similar excitement round the world.
It is definitely more interesting to watch the games than to watch the investment portfolio heading south.
Will Italy win the Euro Cup 2012? That remains to be seen.
The only real winners so far are the doctors in Asia. Many workers are staying up till the wee hours to watch the football matches. They definitely look sick enough the next day. Some even refuse to go to work. They have to visit the doctors for medical certificates in order to get paid sick leave.
