Some people sleep ten hours a day and still wake up tired. They do not fall into a deep sleep.
There are many stages in sleeping. Deep sleep is the most important stage in sleeping. If you are constantly in the semi awake stage, you will experience dreams, and not deep sleep.
When you fall into a deep sleep, the recovery of the systems in the body take place. Practically all the systems in the body rely on the deep sleep stage to recover.
That is why you wake up feeling fresh and cheerful. You know that you have experienced the deep sleep even when a thunderstorm in the night could not wake you up.
How do you fall into a deep sleep?
Many people sleep enough in term of quantity. However, they do not get into a deep sleep.
There are a few ways to fall into a deep sleep.
1. make yourself physically tired
You need to make yourself physically tired in order to get into a deep sleep. Many hikers find that a long hike in the day makes them so tired that they sleep deeply at night.
They may sleep so well that they remember the deep sleep for a long time.
Since you cannot go for a long hike every day, you can try to exercise everyday. You can go for a run, a walk or do housecleaning.
As long as you are physically and not just mentally tired, you can sleep very well. Mentally tired usually does not cause you to go into a deep sleep. You may have dreams when you are just mentally exhausted.
2. happy and relax
You must fall sleep in a happy and relax stage in order to get into a deep sleep.
If you are constantly worrying over debts and children, you are not going to sleep well. You need to learn to put aside the worries and just go to bed.
3. avoid caffeine
You should avoid caffeine a few hours before bedtime.
It depends on the tolerance of your body for caffeine. Some people can drink a cup of coffee in the evening, and still fall into a deep sleep. Some people cannot sleep at night if they had a cup of coffee during lunch.
That is why you need to understand your body and adjust the intake of caffeine.
4. do not use computer before bedtime
If you use the computer to do work or play game just before bedtime, you may find that you have a problem falling asleep.
Your brain is still active and does not want to rest.
It is better for you to set a bedtime routine, and avoid computer at least an hour before bedtime. Let your brain has the time to relax and thinks of sleep.
