Walking For Weight Loss: Think Before You Eat

Walking for weight loss cannot succeed if you do not control your diet.

You must adopt the habit of think before you eat in order for walking for weight loss to succeed.

What is meant by think before you eat?

You can think of how many steps you need to walk in order to burn off the calories from the food.

For example, you want to ensure a Snicker bar with a cup of instant coffee for your morning break.

Do you know how many calories are there? A Snicker bar has 280 calories, and a cup of 3-in-1 instant coffee has about 90 calories.

That means the mid morning snack adds a total of 370 calories.

How does that relate to your walking for weight loss program?

Since about 10% to 20% of the energy goes to the digesting of the food, you still have a balance of more than 300 calories to burn off.

How many steps do you need to burn off 310 calories?

The general rule is that every 20 steps will burn one calorie. That means you need to walk 6,200 steps to burn off 310 calories.

Do you have the time to walk 6,200 steps? Do not forget that lunch time is just two hours away.

You need an hour of continuous walking for weight loss in order to get 6,200 steps.

That is why you need to think before you eat anything. Walking for weight loss is an effective method to lose weight.

However, walking for weight loss is not a miracle program. You cannot expect walking for weight loss to shed 100 pounds if you do not pay attention to your diet.

Once you start to relate calories and the number of steps, you are less inclined

to eat whatever you want.

You can choose coffee without creamer and sugar to go with the Snicker bar. Coffee without sugar and creamer has zero calories.

You can also choose to drink plain water and eat one banana. That will reduce the number of calories substantially.

It does not mean that you cannot eat your favorite food.

This method of paying attention to the diet means you have to think of the consequences before you eat anything.

If you have allocated a day for walking for weight loss, you can eat without guilt.

For example, you have arranged to go for a day hike. You expect to walk more than 30,000 steps that day. You can easily burn off the calories from Snicker bar and coffee.

However, you have to bear in mind that walking for weight loss usually does not exceed 20,000 steps on a working day.

It is very rare for an office personnel to walk more than 10,000 steps on a work day.

That is why paying attention to what you eat is important. Walking for weight loss can succeed when you think of calories in term of the number of steps.
